TAG Heuer Keeps Racing With The Monaco Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Limited Edition

While racing fans won’t be able to experience any track action in Monaco for the first time in a half-century, TAG Heuer unleashes a fiery red Monaco to show their support for the Grand Prix de Monaco Historiques race.

As most watch enthusiasts know, TAG Heuer has been a longstanding supporter of the Monaco Grand Prix. The brand is so intrinsically linked with the iconic street circuit that, in 1969, TAG Heuer unveiled the now-classic Monaco model. The watch has graced the wrists of everyone from Steve McQueen to Brad Pitt. And Last year marked the 50th Anniversary of Monaco with the brand unveiling a slew of limited edition Monaco timepieces (read HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE).

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Monaco Grand Prix and its companion race, the Monaco Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, are canceled. However, that didn’t stop TAG Heuer from declaring its support for future iterations of these races. So, to coincide with the launch of the Monaco Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Limited Edition, the Automobile Club De Monaco has appointed TAG Heuer as the official partner and timekeeper of the Grand Prix De Monaco Historique Race.

About the Grand Prix De Monaco Historique Race

The yearly Grand Prix De Monaco Historique race occurs two weeks before the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix and brings out some of the finest Formula One cars from the 1930s to the 1970s. Similar to the Goodwood Revival, attendees can experience the cars of Stewart, Hill, Lauda, Hunt, and many more. And having TAG Heuer as an official partner will only further amplify public awareness of the increasingly popular race.

To get a closer look at the Monaco Historiques, I would recommend watching the film Ferrari 312B: Where the Revolution Begins (available for purchase on Apple TV or Amazon). The documentary follows former Formula One driver (and pasta baron) Paulo Barilla in his quest to return a vintage Ferrari 312B racing car to the 2017 Monaco Historiques race.

Introducing the TAG Heuer Monaco Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Limited Edition

This new 1,000-piece limited edition Monaco is the culmination of TAG Heuer’s commitment to motorsports. The bright red-and-white motif is especially striking as it is reminiscent of the 1970s when the brand was the timepiece partner of none other than Scuderia Ferrari. While Ferrari has moved on to another LVMH Group brand, Hublot (read HERE), TAG Heuer’s latest release is a fitting addition to the Monaco collection.

Fitted to a perforated black calfskin racing style strap, this 39mm stainless steel chronograph is powered by TAG Heuer’s Automatic Calibre Heuer 02 mechanical movement. And beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph, this in-house movement boasts an impressive 80-hour power reserve. The dial is rhodium-plated with a bright red sunray brushed pattern around the perimeter with a silver-brushed round center dial. Additionally, the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique logo can be found at 1 o’clock on the dial.

Final thoughts

Like many, I missed out on purchasing TAG Heuer’s 50th anniversary Monaco timepieces, and this new Grand Prix de Monaco Historique Limited Edition is a fitting addition to any collection. Whether you’re a casual race fan or a diehard F1 nut, like myself, you’ll want to give this piece a second look.
